#Unreal-Support Rules

In order to begin receiving support in #Unreal-Support you must follow UnrealHelper's instruction and take a small quiz that tests your eligability for support. Do NOT change your nick to something dumb like “Need_Voice” or “Give_me_voice”, such will get you banned. If you cannot access the quiz for any reason, please visit the forums for support instead. It would also be appreciated if you left a message in #Unreal-Devel stating the quiz is down. It will be investigated when someone sees the message.

Once you have voice in #Unreal-Support, please follow these simple rules to make your support experience a pleasant one:

  1. The channel language is English. If you cannot speak English, please visit the forums and post in the International section.
  2. Always make sure you invested some time yourself in solving your problem. This means checking the following:
  3. What we support is UnrealIRCd, nothing else. We do not help with services or any other non-UnrealIRCd products. We will not help with your operating system, services, stats, or BOPM! If you need help with your OS, you should not be trying to run an IRCd. This includes OperServ RAW and SVS* commands: If a command starts with SVS and you do not know what it does or how to use it, that command is not for you - so don't use it!
  4. Tampering with the IRCd source (changing version string, colored nicks, anything..) makes the software not our responsibility, hence we reserve the right to deny you support.
  5. Found a bug or have a feature suggestion? Report it at bugs.unrealircd.org!
    • Note that most of the time the Unreal coders are not in the support channel, therefore reporting bugs and/or doing feature suggestions in the channel is only a waste of time.
  6. DO NOT JUST ASK IF YOU CAN GET HELP, instead, Say: “I need help, <the question here>“. We will take this as a sign that you read these rules.
  7. Please understand that the people who (might) help you in #unreal-support are volunteers. There is no obligation to help you, and we may not be available all the time. DO NOT HIGHLIGHT ALL THE OPS, it is sure to get you banned. Getting help is a privilege, NOT a right. Do not demand support! If you feel you are waiting too long for an answer, try out the Forums (hint: use the search!).
  8. Do NOT message people without asking for permission first.
  9. We only support the latest UnrealIRCd version.
  10. Use common sense… don't flood, don't spam, no excessive ?? or !!. Show respect towards those helping you.
  11. We do not support or help with spying on users (m_spy, +I, m_monitor, etc). Discussing such things WILL get you banned!
  12. No pasting! If you need to paste something (more than 1 line), then use the paste bin.
  13. Do not paste your whole conf and expect us to find and fix the errors for you. Unreal tells you exactly where in the conf the errors are. We are here to help you fix the errors, not to fix the errors for you.
  14. Don't go join other #unreal* channels such as #unrealircd or #unreal-devel in order to get help. It's not going to get you anything but a kick/ban.
  15. #Unreal-Support is not for non-Unreal chat. Please go to a different channel for that.
  16. Feel free to stick around to help other people! #Unreal-Support is not for telling people to 'RTFM'. We are here to help, and not to give people a hard time. If, after helping out people for a couple of weeks, you would like to become a supporter, then answer these questions and mail them to Stealth along with some info about yourself, experience, etc.. Remember to include your nick!
